Trouble in Vegas gets rained out
Determined to have a better showing than their last tournament, the Federalis went into Las Vegas in a pool with Minnesota (current #10 in the nation and a team that went to nationals in 2009), BYU, and Utah. Unfortunately the weather determined the outcome for the weekend.
SDSU came out hot against Minnesota going up a break early. They soon let up as Minnesota took half 7-3, but in typical Federali fashion SDSU started chipping away at the lead. Eventually the Feds tied the game up at 10s right before the hard cap blew. Double game point, tied 10-10, game to 11. The Feds pulled the disc and put enough defensive pressure to force Minnesota into a tournover. Unfortunately, fundamentals got the best of SDSU as they turned the disc over on dumps twice to give Minnesota more opportunities. Minnesota finally put the disc in on their third posession of the point and won the game 11-10.
As with most tournaments, a dramatic loss is often followed by another opportunity and the Feds wasted no time by beating BYU 12-8. After a 4 hour bye, SDSU met up to meet UTAH in a very windy matchup. Utah was playing a sort of huck and hope offense, but Jackson was always there to stop the deep ball. He ended up logging 8 d's in this game alone. SDSU ended up rolling 13-4.
The rest of the weekend was a huge disappointment. The rain hit Friday night and caused the fields to be closed. Cultimate then had to cancel the tournament and did not offer any refunds. The Feds just hung out in Vegas until Sunday where they were home before the Super Bowl.
